Rotterdam (2) ex. British Empire

This ship was built 1878 at Belfast by Harland & Wolff for the British Shipowners Co. and launched as the "British Empire". On Sept. 25, 1878 she made her maiden voyage as charter for American Line, from Liverpool to Philadelphia. In 1886 she was sold to the Holland America Line and was renamed Rotterdam (2). In 1895 she was renamed "Edam (3)". This image is from an old photo.
