Broclebank Line steamship built by Harland and Wolff Ltd at Belfast 1891-92. The Mahratta served as Boer War Transport #94 in 1900. In 1909 the Mahratta stuck the Goodwin Sands while homeward bound to London from Calcutta with a mixed cargo including jute, rice, rubber and tea. She was heavy loaded and had a crew of 90 and 17 passengers. She ran aground on the Fawk Spit of the Goodwin Sands in calm weather and stuck fast. This image is from an old postcard and shows the ship as she served as a Boer War transport in 1900.
