(This town was named Queenstown in 1850 to commemorate a visit by Queen Victoria, in 1922 it was renamed Cobh which was the original name). Cobh (Queenstown) was one of the major transatlantic Irish ports, and was the departure point for about 2.5 million Irish emigrants between 1848 (the year of the great famine) and 1950. The transatlantic liners typicality called at Cobh on their way from the mayor British pots to North American ports.
