Sectional view of the Canadian Pacific Line sisters. The steamship Empress of Britain (1) was built 1905 at Glasgow by Fairfield Shipbuilding & Eng. Co. Ltd. and the sister Empress of Ireland was built 1906 at Glasgow by Fairfield Shipbuilding & Eng. Co. Ltd. These ships mainly sailed with emigrants and other passengers between Liverpool and Quebec. On May 29 1914 the Empress of Ireland collided with the Norwegian steamship Storstad in the St. Lawrence River and sank with the loss of 1012 lives.
