French Line steamship built 1866 by Chantier de Penhoët, St Nazaire. The St Laurent was originally laid down as a paddle steamer but modified to a screw steamer while under construction. This image shows the ship as she appeared in the period between 1876 and 1888. This ship was first used for the Havre - New York service. In 1876 she was re-engined by Schneider, Creuzot. In 1886 the ship was transferred to the Havre - Panama service. The ship was in service till she was scrapped in 1902. This image is from an old cabinet photograph of an old painting.
