French Line steamship launched 1924 at Birkenhead by Cammell, Laird & Co. Ltd. Originally laid down as the Suffren. This ship ran with emigrants and other passengers between Havre and New York for the C.G.T - Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (French Line). The ship was badly damaged in WW2. After being salvaged she was refitted and rebuilt with only one funnel. In 1953 she was sold to the Canadian Pacific Line and renamed Empress of Australia (2). This image is from an old postcard.
