Principessa Giovanna

The Principessa Giovanna was built in 1923 by Cantieri Navali Franco Tosi at Taranto for the Lloyd Sabaudo Line. Originally she was constructed as a cargo ship, but was converted into a passenger vessel in 1926. In 1932, the ship was transferred to the Italian Line (Italia Società per Azioni di Navigazione). In 1932, Lloyd Sabaudo merged with Navigazione Generale Italiana (NGI) and Cosulich Line to form the Italian Line (Italia Società per Azioni di Navigazione). Consequently, the Principessa Giovanna became part of this new entity in 1932. Therefore, the ship was not in service for NGI prior to the merger but became part of the combined fleet afterward. The Principessa Giovanna was mainly involved in passenger services between Italy and South America.
